Privacy Policy
How Apeer handles learner, account and learning information.
1. Who is responsible for your information
APEER (PTY) LTD (“Apeer”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Address: Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa
Email: khuli@apeer.co.za
Phone / WhatsApp: 066 039 9023
2. Information we collect
- account and profile information such as first name, last name, email address, parent or guardian email where applicable, school, grade and WhatsApp/mobile number;
- verification and account-security information;
- learning information such as flashcard attempts, progress, unlocked levels and learning events;
- Lost Mark Analysis (LMA) notes and other responses you choose to save;
- support communications; and
- limited technical and security information reasonably needed to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service.
3. How we collect information
We collect information directly from you when you register, complete onboarding, use learning features, save LMA notes, manage your account or contact support. We also receive information when the app communicates with Apeer’s production systems to provide account, learning and security functionality.
4. Why we use information
- to create, verify, authenticate and manage learner accounts;
- to provide flashcards, memorandum content, LMA, progress and level progression;
- to restore and synchronise learning progress;
- to send service and security communications such as verification or password-reset messages;
- to respond to support;
- to protect Apeer, users and systems from abuse, fraud or security threats; and
- to comply with applicable law.
5. Learners under 18
Apeer is designed for Grade 12 learners, which means some users may be under 18. Where applicable law requires the involvement or consent of a parent, guardian or other competent person, Apeer will handle the learner’s information in accordance with those requirements.
6. Communications
We may use contact details for transactional messages needed to operate an Apeer account, including verification, password-reset, security and support messages. We do not use learner information for third-party behavioural advertising.
7. Sharing and service providers
Apeer does not sell learner personal information. We may use trusted service providers to host infrastructure, deliver communications, support app distribution or provide other services on Apeer’s behalf. They may process information only as needed to provide those services, subject to appropriate safeguards. We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect legal rights and system security.
8. App stores and payments
Apple App Store, Google Play and other app stores operate under their own privacy terms. If Apeer later enables store-managed purchases or subscriptions, the relevant app store processes the transaction. Apeer does not receive full payment-card details from the app store.
9. International processing
Some service providers may process information outside South Africa. Where this happens, Apeer will take reasonable steps to ensure that the information remains protected in accordance with applicable law and this policy.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards including encrypted HTTPS connections, authenticated account access, password-protection controls and restricted production access. No system can guarantee absolute security.
11. Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here or as required by law. When an account is deleted, associated account and learner data is deleted or de-identified, except limited information that may need to be retained for legitimate legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute or backup-integrity purposes.
12. Account and data deletion
You can initiate deletion in Apeer under Profile → Delete account. You can also request deletion without the app at legal.apeer.co.za/delete-account.
13. Your privacy rights
Subject to applicable law, you may ask to access, correct or delete personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, or ask questions about how your information is handled. Contact khuli@apeer.co.za.
14. Complaints
You may contact Apeer first so we can try to resolve a concern. You may also contact South Africa’s Information Regulator at 010 023 5200 or enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.
15. Changes
We may update this policy as Apeer changes or legal requirements develop. We will publish the updated version here.
